Big Brother 9, Episode 2 - Turn the Chicken Up

Posted on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in Big Brother

Diet Pepsi … check. Remote control … check. Laptop … check. Something stronger on hand to drink in case things get ugly/boring/nauseating … check. I’m ready to watch tonight’s episode of Big Brother 9! Join me, won’t you?

Recap, recap, recap. I was hoping to see Natalie say, “I love bikinis, coffee, and god!” again, but no luck. How hilarious is that? Rehash of the shocking soul mate twist. Oh look, Jen and Parker won the Power Couple title. Let’s move on.

Parker: “We are the power couple. We’re like Brad and Angelina.” Oh dear. Jen’s just happy that she can keep Ryan and their secret safe. Parker seems to be leaning towards Sheila and Adam. Sharon DR’s that she’s happy because she connected with Parker right away. Adam DR’s something, but who the hell knows what he’s saying - the twitching and buggy eyes are way too distracting.

Ooooh, Adam wants to open a hair salon for special needs kids, “so the retards can get it together and get their hair done.” Dude, that’s SO un-PC. And then we get to see him eat something straight out of the fridge with his mouth open. What a charmer.

Hee - Alison looks a bit smitten with Ryan, asking him if she’s his type. Yep, her DR confirms it. She’s crushin’. This is followed by a teary DR from Jen. Ugh. Why are they trying to pretend they aren’t together anyway? Is there a purpose here?

Wow, Alex looks cute in glasses! Looks like he and Amanda are getting along well. Amanda says she’s open to the idea that he could be her soul mate. That’s her first mistake - trusting that BB actually knew what they were doing putting the two of them together.

Jacob’s outside talking to Caveman Adam and Ryan, saying that he trusts the two of them and Alex. Then, he DR’s that he likes to “turn the chicken up.” What? Then he goes on and on about how he hates the “power couple” and wants them gone. Whoops. Ryan’s going to share this, of course. But wait, Jen’s with them now too, and Jacob is still yapping about how much he hates Parker. Dumbass.

Jacob says that everyone thinks Parker’s a snake. Jen decides to go inside, and she tells Parker what’s going on. Parker goes outside and confronts Jacob, who admits to saying he’s a snake, and that others are saying it to. When Jacob won’t name names, Parker goes through the house waking everyone else up to find out what’s going on. He asks them who called him a snake, and no one says a word. Jacob still won’t give anyone up, and everyone gets on his case. Poor Sharon knows what’s going to happen now.

Nightvision. Sharon and Jacob, with Sharon saying that she’s scared that this is going to backfire because he’s in his own little “Jacob world.” He seems to think that he’s done a good job of stirring things up. Or, you know, turning the chicken up.

Parker calls Sharon up to chat. Sharon says she knows who it was who called Parker a snake. After much guessing, he figures out that it was Ryan. She thinks that this will save her and Jacob, and Parker DR’s that keeping Ryan in the game isn’t a priority now. But then Parker goes to Jen and tells her what Sharon said. Jen, in some kind of twisted logic, decides that the only way to save Ryan is to come clean to Parker. Good grief. She stresses that she always has Parker’s back, and in the end she wants the pair of them to win. Parker promises not to say anything to anyone. Jen thinks that they have the game in the bag. Because she apparently has great game, blowing the twist before the first week is even up.

Ryan finds out that Parker knows, so he tells Alison. Oh. My. God. These people are dumbasses. At least Alison is smart enough to realize that this is going to impact her game. Hee - she DR’s that Ryan would be better off with someone like her, who’s less jealous and catty. Love it!

The TV Screen of Doom reads, “Eviction Today.” This is apparently a very big deal. And just like that, it’s time for the eviction ceremony. Parker says that some housemates didn’t feel comfortable with one of the couples. Jen starts crying, and says that it’s hard because the girl in the couple didn’t do anything wrong. Jen keeps sobbing as Jacob and Sharon are named. Sharon looks pissed. Hugs all around, and the first eliminated couple is gone. Jen? Still weeping.

Sheila realizes that the reason she’s still in the house is because of Jen and Parker, but she’s worried that Adam will do something stupid. I would be too. Adam says that he’s got a lot further than he thought already. That’s never a good sign.

Now it’s time to run animatedly into the backyard for the HoH competition. The door is covered in a giant heart that reads “Tunnel of Love” and there are boats everywhere. Jen and Parker are able to compete, because they’re the Power Couple, not HoH’s. BB has brought Eric and Jessica back from last season to host the comp. They look cute, but meh. And yes, they’re still together.

The comp is like the Newlywed Game - the couples have to answer questions separately, and then they compare answers to see how many they’ve matched. What is up with Jessica’s eyebrows? They look like big hairy black caterpillars or something. Everyone gets the first question points. Jen and Parker are having a lot of fun with this, and Ryan doesn’t look happy at all. I’m not going to recap all the questions, but they’re pretty funny. Even Sheila seems to be enjoying herself.

Eventually Amanda and Alex become the first HoH couple. They do actually seem to like each other, so maybe this just proves that. Alison is worried that now she has to play for herself and Ryan, and also Parker and Jen. She says that Jen would be the last person she’d want to trust in the game, and is tempted to reveal their secret just to put a target on her. Dun dun dun.

That’s pretty much it for this episode. Who will Alex and Amanda nominate? Check here if you really want to know!

Big Brother 9 Live Feeds, February 12th – Here We Go Again

Posted on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in Big Brother

Spoilers abound in this post, so if you don’t want to read them you should just stop right here! This whole evening was like a high school house party gone wrong. You know, when young’uns drink too much and then everything becomes a major crisis?

The live feeds kicked in with some action right off the bat. The first thing we saw was Parker, who was really angry with Jen. It seems as though there’s a final six alliance in place already, and it includes Alex and Amanda, Parker and Jen, and Matt and Natalie.

The kicker here is that Jen and Ryan’s secret is out - everyone knows that they’re boyfriend and girlfriend. So how did they manage not to be in the same alliance, and how on earth did they figure this would ever work? Jen insists that she won’t ever put Ryan on the block, and this upsets Parker. He goes on a rant about how Jen is the most selfish person in the house.

Sheila and Adam are, remarkably, still in the house. The couple that’s been evicted already is Sharon and Jacob. No one speaks about them though, so I can’t tell you how that all played out. We’ll have to wait until tonight’s episode to see some of what went down.

The group tries to convince Jen that she’s there to play a game, and that she’ll have to turn on Ryan eventually anyway. This argument continues for most of the night, with Amanda trying to play peacemaker between everyone. On a side note, Amanda’s dressed in an outfit that would have been right at home in the early 80s. Are asymmetrical stripes and off-the-shoulder shirts coming back? Lord help us.

The new HoH couple is Alex and Amanda, and Alex is just as upset with Jen as Parker is. He threatens to put Jen/Parker and Ryan/Alison on the block together just to break up the couple.

There’s a lot of booze flowing tonight, and Alison especially is feeling no pain. She alludes to Parker that she needs to stay in the house because there’s something in her real life that’s causing her to need a break. She won’t say what that is though. She walks around repeating herself, having trouble balancing on her own two feet, and slurring her words. She seems to be a happy drunk though.

Parker walks around wearing a crown that looks like it was lifted from an Imperial Margarine commercial. Do we really have to have throwbacks to Dustin, of all people? He tries to play the martyr, offering to sacrifice himself to get Jen out of the house. He mentions this dozens of times, saying that at least he’ll leave the game with his integrity.

Joshuah is annoyed and hurt that no one is inviting him to talk strategy with them. Dude, remember Zach? Don’t be a Zach.

Jen cries a lot, mostly to Ryan. Matt claims that the alliance is toast, but Amanda really wants to try and keep it together. Apparently the hamsters have been threatened with penalty nominations if they don’t sleep with their partner, and if the HoH couple can’t agree on who to nominate, they get nominated themselves.

Parker and Ryan yell at each other outside because Ryan doesn’t want anyone dissin’ his girl, and there are threats of hitting. But nothing comes of this, of course.

After some more drunken rambling, Jen and Parker end up alone, trying to talk things out. Jen claims that she was planning on voting Ryan out of the house, but because of the way that Parker treated her she changed her mind. Do I believe her? No way. She had a discussion with Ryan earlier, in which he coached her to tell Parker what he wants to hear and then do whatever she wants to. Parker feels that, as long as Ryan is in the house, Jen is going to play the game personally and not for herself or for Parker.

After much more circle-talk, Parker apologizes to Jen and tells her that he called her some really nasty stuff. Jen’s upset because it’ll be on national television. Gah. They hug and make up, although I’m not sure this truce will last. Parker admits that he lost it because he was so angry.

Meanwhile, Natalie tells a sob story about how her mother is a schizo and her father was never around, so she basically raised herself. Matt isn’t happy with Natalie (or Natty, as they call her - and no, I’m not making a comment on that one) and complains that she wants to make babies with him but he’s just not interested. He doesn’t think she’s all that bright. Hee.

There’s lots of half-naked people in and around the hot tub. James is in his pink undies, and the women are stripped down to teeny bikinis for the most part. Amanda likes to brag about her ass and how hard it is, asking the guys to smack it. She has the most annoying voice in the house. Natalie looks like she’s going to fall out of her bikini at any moment. She tells everyone that she bought her boobs in Vegas, and they’re C cups. My ass they’re C’s. Those puppies are LEAST double D’s.

Amanda goes upstairs to talk with Parker and Jen, and they try to work out some kind of strategy where Jen and Parker will go on the block, but whoever they’re up against will be the ones actually going. This, apparently, will make the others think that the “six” alliance is toast.

Ryan comes up, and Parker goes out to apologize to him as well. There we go, drama is all over for the evening.

Alex and Amanda take a bubble bath together. She wants to talk strategy, he doesn’t. It’s not really all that sexy or romantic, although all of the camera close-ups of Amanda’s boobs are trying to make it look otherwise.

Slowly people start heading off to bed. Jen and Parker stay up and talk, and Jen agrees to vote Ryan out for the sake of the alliance. Apparently Amanda really wants Alison out of the house, so she’s definitely putting Ryan and Alison on the block. I wonder what’ll happen if Jen and Parker win the veto?

Big Brother 9 Premiere: Sheila Gets Suckered

Posted on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in Big Brother

Well, there we go. BB9 kicked off tonight with some surprises right out of the gate. We knew that the hamsters would be coupled up, but we didn’t know that Sharon and Jacob had been together for 12 years and recently broken up. They both spoke of the pain of their breakup, and then bam - they’re spending their time in the BB house together. While it’ll certainly be good for drama, I’m sure they’re both at a point where they’ve decided to try and move on. BB may even have been a way for one or both of them to do that. It’s almost cruel to put them in the house together, although I’m going to assume that someone, somewhere, thought they might be doing the couple a favour somehow.

Then we have Jen and Ryan, who we all knew about anyway. Why are they trying to deceive the rest of the house? It’s James and Sarah all over again, except that there was a purpose to James lying about his girlfriend, and vice versa. It didn’t exactly work out too well for them in the end, and I see no reason why it’ll be better for Jen and Ryan, especially considering that they can’t both get to the end together. Unless of course the game becomes individual eventually.

Finally, I want to mention Sheila and Adam. Yes, Sheila went overboard, but I can’t really blame her. We got a few clips of Adam picking at various body parts, and his whole demeanor is that of the guy at the club that you can’t seem to get rid of no matter how hard you try. Sheila was disappointed, and I’m sure the prospect of spending three months with this guy was way too much for her to digest. She dated Scott Baio, for crying out loud.

The feeds aren’t up just yet, so I can’t tell you which couple has already been evicted. As soon as I know, I’ll post! In the meantime, you can check out the feeds for yourself: Watch Big Brother 9 on SuperPass! You’ll get 14 days free!

What did you think of the premiere? Is putting Sharon and Jacob together just cruel, or does it give you hope for them to be reunited? Should BB be playing the role of matchmaker in the first place? And how would you have reacted in either Sheila or Adam’s place?
