Big Brother 9, Season Overview/Finale

Author LauraBelle | 28.04.2008 | Category Big Brother

Another season of Big Brother has come to a close, and I have to say I feel a little differently this year. Normally at this time, I’m really sorry to see it go, wondering what I’ll do with my time, but silently feeling relieved to be done with it for another year. But this time, I’m not really sorry at all, I know what I’ll do with my time, and I’m not silent at all.

So what was the problem with the season? Was it all just too rushed to fit it in during the writers’ strike? This couldn’t have helped them garner ratings. Reruns probably would have sufficed. We were all so excited with the theme of Dirty Little Secrets, but truthfully, the secret that affected the game the most was that the guinea pigs were sisters. Where will the sisters go anyway? Is there a guinea pig retirement home somewhere? Is Sharon placing a bid, or would she feel guilty taking them and not Cammo the Slug?

It seemed with the pairing of everyone into couples, and having everyone be single and very sexually charged, that BB was looking for just that, some major business going on under the sheets. But we didn’t just have that, we also had orgies in the pool, strip shows, people masturbating, James walking around with a sock on it, Adam threatening to show people his hooded warrior, and after awhile, it just wasn’t fun.

After all that calmed down, the couples were broken up, and the more sexually charged people left, it was finally time to get down to business, and only then did the game become interesting. Unfortunately for James, it was too late for him, as he was right that on top of him being a competitive threat, he was also taking the heat for his new girlfriend Chelsia’s antics. He had to go, which was too bad, as I would have liked to see him compete and scheme these past few weeks.

Somewhere along in there, Adam and Ryan just go too ahead of themselves, and the girls just let them do it. They already had the game won, and both knew what they had to do to secure their place. Their most competitive threat, with James now gone, was Natalie. They had to pick some fights with her to give reason to get rid of her. They knew they could easily sail into the final two after this, and they did, although they still had to keep the game interesting by stringing along Sharon and Sheila until the last final minutes.

In the end, can they be blamed? No, they were only doing what they had to to win. And looking at the whole season, Adam deserves this win. He’s a smart guy and good at comps, and threw them when he needed to to not seem like a threat. His game was compromised from the beginning by being paired with an aging pinup, but he made it work, and even though they seemed to hate each other, he found a way to have her keep him safe and keep helping him out in the game. Who would have imagined that in the very end, they would be the only couple that stayed true to each other?

Ryan did well, but knew he didn’t deserve it over Ryan, as he was good at comps, but he was too easily pulled whichever way the wind was blowing. He’ll take his $60,000 and go home with Jen, but they were dating less than a year before this long separation. I see them getting back to their life and their dog, and in a few months, going their separate ways. She won’t be able to stand not being the most important thing in his life anymore, and that’s probably why she rushed up onstage to stand right in front of him. We never got to see him after Adam’s win. We just say the top of his head behind Jen. It has to kill her that she was the one that wanted to come on the show so badly, and he didn’t really want it, and he’s the winner, while she left the second week.

I hope Sheila can get it together, and that she realizes the most important thing in her life is her son, not the fame. She had the fame and high life once, but it’s gone. She can’t rely on her looks as she once did, and she never found a way to parlay her life into success unless it was based on her looks. I’m hoping with the writing of the book, she’ll begin to be more introspective, and will realize the drug-addicted Finnish rock star is not the guy she should have left in charge of her impressionable son. Maybe instead of writing a tell-all book of her life as a Penthouse Pet, she can write a book for young girls on how to find some self worth that they’ll have all their lives, after their looks are gone. She’s only 46. Her life does not need to be in the crapper.

I can’t believe Sharon is entertaining the thought of being with Jacob again, but then again, they’ve been with each other since they were so young, it’s really all they know. And why was it he jumped up on that stage to hug Adam before anyone else? Yeah, he was his buddy in the house, but that was a few months ago. Many things have changed.

Natalie seems to realize the mistakes she made with Matt, but I don’t buy it at all that she was never in love with him. We all saw it. And why did Julie bring that up to Matt, asking him a thousand times if there was something he wanted to say before they showed a clip, then never show a clip? I felt cheated, and Natalie should too, but for very different reasons.

James is probably right with his statement that we heard during the final HOH head to head comp. He and Chelsia probably don’t have a future at all. Although, it will be interesting to see what he does with that $25,000. I know he wanted the final 2 to blow their cash, but I hope he doesn’t blow his. He could finish biking around the world on that and finish he dream. And hopefully buy some new pants. I swear those light blue ones are girls pants.

As far as everyone else, it’s a shame Julie didn’t give us a chance to hear from them at all. Of all the questions to ask the non-jury members, why ask Jen about her feelings about Allison. I liked that she still hates her, and Allison wasn’t even close to being truthful about her feelings, but why not ask Alex how he felt to be voted back into the house by fans, but not the other HGs. Why not ask him how he felt about Sheila’s Alex Doll? Why not ask Parker about the paparazzi filming him filming others now? Why not ask Jacob if he still wants to be with Sharon after she said she’s willing to give him another chance? So many other things to discuss, other than Jen and Allison.

And that theme carried right on over to The Early Show this morning. We saw Ryan and Adam get their checks, and Ryan admitted he would have felt this whole experience would have been a waste had he not earned at least the $50,000, I suppose forgetting about the earlier $10,000, and Adam talked about both of them deserving it. Oh, and we found out the rest of the votes. It was 6-1 in favor of Adam, so the only vote Ryan got was from Josh.

Here’s a clue, BB. For season 10, we want to see some people with personalities. We want an Evel Dick, a Janelle, a Danielle, a Kaiser, a Howie, etc. And quit feeling like you have to either invite secret pairs or pair people up. Stop it. Just stop. Give us interesting people to watch and to write about. You better start now, as you only have two-and-a-half months to get it done.

If you’re one that just can’t stand to see the season go away yet, watch it all over again, leading up to BB10, right here: Watch Big Brother 9 on SuperPass!

Big Brother 9 Live Feeds, April 26th – The Countdown Begins

Author Carrie | 27.04.2008 | Category Big Brother

This recap is going to be short, because when I say that nothing really happened in the house today, it’s like saying that Natalie might be a little bit clueless, or that Joshuah was slightly over the top, or even that Ryan enjoys a light snack every now and then. Understatement of the season. Even if you like one or both of the people in the final two, the end days are never that interesting. So fortify your will and your coffee cup/beer mug, and let’s just get this over with.

Topic of the Day: There’s not a whole lot of conversation going on, but the boys do spend some time discussing what they’re going to do when they get out of the house. Adam is going to make a ton of phone calls to tell all of his buddies that their boy is back. I’m sure they’ll be thrilled. Ryan still thinks he’s going to meet Cameron Diaz at the movie premiere that he has to attend with Sharon, but mostly he’s looking forward to some horizontal action with Jen.

Adam summarizes their immediate plans by saying that, in 24 hours, he’ll be at the tittie bar with his friends while Ryan will be doing his girl. This is the first final two I’ve seen that hasn’t been actively dreaming of the wrap party.

Today’s Menu: Ryan appears to want to leave no food uneaten in the BB house. After lots of snacking throughout the day, Adam decides to cook up a whole head of cabbage along with an entire stick of butter. They eat this with leftover steak and chicken. The finishing touch is cookies, fresh from the oven. (They don’t actually make these from scratch of course – they’re of the slice and bake variety.)

Vote Counter and Jury Rehash: Adam thinks Ryan is going to win by a vote of 5-2. Ryan says he doesn’t care anymore. There’s a bit of banter about how it would suck to be Sheila, and make it almost to the end and still only walk away with a stipend and not the big money.

BEEBEES: Adam actually chops up some peppers and feeds the guinea pigs. This doesn’t occur until the evening though, and I’m sure Sharon is wishing she got to take the sisters with her to the sequester house.

Mystery Music: Late in the evening, Ryan hears some music outside and thinks there’s a party going on. It sounds like an orchestra practice or something. Ryan and Adam are locked indoors, and Ryan is annoyed that someone’s having a party out there and the two of them can’t even listen in.

Last Day Plans: Even though both boys have slept most of the day away, they both want to head to bed early tonight. Adam mentions that he’s going to stay awake until midnight to fulfill his Big Brother: After Dark obligations, and then he’s going to just sleep the entire last day until it’s time to get ready for the live finale.

Ryan would rather get up early and enjoy his last day in the house. I’m not sure exactly what that will entail – it’s not like he hasn’t had the last two days to enjoy in relative solitude.

Adam decides he’s going to wear a black shirt for finale night, and gets it all ironed and ready to go so that he won’t have anything to do tomorrow. He packs up most of his stuff while “fulfilling his BB:AD obligations,” which must be as riveting for ShoToo subscribers as it is for me.

Quotes of the Day: “This place ain’t all that messy without Big She.” – Adam

“It’s not the size of the guinea pig in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the guinea pig.” – Ryan

“Goodnight America!” – Adam

Big Brother 9 Live Feeds, April 25th – Wake Me When it’s Over

Author Carrie | 26.04.2008 | Category Big Brother

It’s all over but the final vote now, and the two hamsters we’re stuck with for the next three days have nothing to do but sleep and complain. Both of which they seem to excel at. I was kind of hoping that the boyz would actually try to have some fun now, maybe have a few laughs while wasting away their last few days in the house. Doesn’t look like that’s about to happen, sadly.

Jury Questioning Rehash (or “Most of the Day”): After sleeping until mid-afternoon, the guys waste no time in slamming the jury members. Adam can’t figure out why Josh hates him so much, and is concerned that he’s had enough time in the sequester house to turn some votes away from him. The guys decide Chelsia is a “bulldog bitch.” You won’t hear any arguments from me.

Next up is Sheila-bashing. They think she’s spiteful. Sharon apparently told Ryan that Jacob liked Adam, and that Ryan would really have to work to get her vote. She also claimed that she saw Ryan wink at Adam after the eviction vote, so she knows he went back on their final two deal. Of course Ryan keep denying there was any such deal to begin with. These guys are really, really hateful, and it floors me that they can’t grasp how the people on the jury feel, and that this is their only opportunity before the vote to get answers. They seem to have been expecting everyone to break into rounds of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”

Ryan wants to “squish” Joshuah under his arm pit for his guinea pig comment. They regret leaving nice goodbye messages for Sheila because she was horrible to them and they both hate her now. They agree that James was the coolest one on the jury. Probably because he already knows who he’s voting for and didn’t really need to ask them anything important.

They even think Matt was an asshole last night, asking Adam about the business he was planning to start with Natalie. Ryan thinks Sheila told Matt about it. Think about that for a minute. Natalie, confirmed Matt-stalker and nicknamed “Chatty Natty”, who has been in sequester with him for over a week, wouldn’t be the one to pass
