What’s Hot On TV Tonight - It’s Mother’s Day
Hello. You probably are confused. I am the normal writer’s son. Since it is Mother’s Day, I am choosing certain events that make me reminded of my mommy. She got mad at me last night, so I’m writing this on her laptop in the morning without her knowledge … Sorry mom.
1. Mother. Never have seen this movie, I think now I will, because this will probably happen to me. See as this unlucky movie director has to move back home with his mother while madly in love with someone. HBO Comedy 8:20AM-10:05AM CT
2. How William Shatner Changed the World. Yesterday, we (Mom and I) went out to see Star Trek, and I am told I loved Next Generations as a kid. See as William Shatner compares technological knowings to what Star Trek has predicted. History Channel 9AM-11AM CT
3. Classic AWA Wrestling. Mom had just recently watched The Wrestler, and is begging me to watch it, which I promise I will watch tonight. ESPN Classic takes top moments and wrestlers at their peak from the American Wrestling Association from the 70’s and the 80’s. ESPN Classic 9:00AM-10:00 AM CT
4. Problem Child 2. This is probably what my mom unfortunately sees me as most of the time, even though there is no comparison. And my sister also loves this movie. Junior is back in a new town, and tries to thwart his dad’s attempts at remarrying. Encore East 9:05AM-10:40AM CT
The Amazing Race – Speed Bump Ahead
So what’s going to happen next time on The Amazing Race? Margie and Luke are ending up to be more cutthroat than anyone would have thought, U-Turning teams to take out a strong competitor, and now being the first team to win two legs of a race this season.
In the clip below I have to say it’s truly touching watching Luke get emotional. The poverty in other countries always seems to get people choked up, just the thought of people living in such conditions, but Luke gets very emotional, and it’s even more striking, as he tries to explain to his mom what is bothering him, and of course has to do so with sign language. Somehow it makes it that much more poignant.
Other than that, I have my doubts on if Christie and Jodi can make it past their speed bump. They won one leg of the Race so far, then came in last place this last leg, and all other legs they seemed to be barely hanging in there. Their supposed skills as flight attendants so far haven’t shown themselves, and if ever there was a time for it to come in handy, it would be now. They’ll need all the help they can get this week.
What’s Hot On TV Tonight - It’s Good to Be the King
I’m not quite sure why, but we have a friend who just celebrated his birthday this weekend that utters the line, “It’s good to be the King,” quite frequently. With the premiere of The King on tonight, it seemed like a very fitting title. There is a lot of good TV on tonight, so I hope you don’t have a lot of early St. Patrick’s Day plans.
1. NBA Basketball: Mavericks at Lakers. Los Angeles is on a roll, having won the last five games against the Mavericks and having won both games played against the Mavericks this year. 2:30 PM CT ABC
2. The Color Purple. Steve Spielberg takes on Alice Walker’s novel, and includes an impressive lineup of stars, Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover, and Oprah Winfrey. 3:30 PM CT BET
3. The Goodbye Girl. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Neil Simon just can’t do wrong by me. Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason take on this story of an actor that movies in with a down-on-her-luck mom. Quinn Cummings was just oh-so-adorable and clever in this part. 5:00 PM CT Turner Classic Movies.
4. 60 Minutes. The Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke is interviewed and discusses the economic crisis, and chef Alice Waters is profiled. 6:00 PM CT CBS
The Amazing Race 14 - Episode 4 Promo
Can I just say that my favorite part of the below promo is Luke jamming on the little cart ride? That’s just adorable. My second favorite moment is Jaime and Cara, I still can’t keep them apart, they need to have shirts with their names on them, saying “I’m reader” instead of “I’m a good reader.” She seemed to already be applying the speed reading techniques of leaving out unimportant words.
Look like the wood-stacking challenge will be one of those fun ones to watch that has everyone struggling, as they only turn into dominoes.
What’s Hot On TV Tonight - The Oscars!
It’s time for the Oscars, but it still seems too early to me. I’m still used to them being aired towards the end of March. The big talk of course is if Heath Ledger will win the Best Supporting Actor Award posthumously for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight. You know it’ll be one of the last awards they give out. And before we even get to the actual ceremony, we have hours of red carpet interviews to wade through.
1. Ratatouille. This 2008 Oscar winner for best animated feature is definitely out of the norm for the usual Disney type of film. In some ways, that’s what makes it work. 11:40 AM CT Starz 4
2. Remember the Titans. Denzel Washington did not win an Oscar for this film and in fact wasn’t even nominated, but should have been. This true story should have earned at least a nomination for the writers as well. 12:05 PM CT Encore East
3. Countdown to the Red Carpet: The 2009 Academy Awards. Check out all the early arrivals, and find the laughter wherever you can. 1:00 PM CT E!
4. Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts was nominated, but lost for her role as the prostitute. Ten years later, she picked up the Oscar for Erin Brockovich. Oddly, Richard Gere has never even been nominated for an Oscar. 1:05 PM CT The Movie Channel West
What’s Hot On TV Tonight - Two Races Back On Schedule
We’ve got two long-awaited races starting again today. NASCAR opens today with the Daytona 500, and The Amazing Race starts up again tonight with a brand new season. Phil Keoghan and his racers probably won’t travel to Daytona tonight, but it’s quite likely someone will call the Daytona 500 amazing at some point.
1. NHL Hocky: Flyers at Rangers. It’s a clash of the Atlantic Division. New York took a quick lead giving them the eventual win the first time the teams met this season on October 11. 11:30 AM CT NBC
2. Road to Daytona. Go behind the scenes with the teams while they prepare for the Daytona 500. 12:00 PM CT Fox
3. Daytona 500: The 51st Annual Race. Floria Governor Charlie Crist will be the grand marshal for the first race of the Sprint Cup this season. 1:00 PM CT Fox
4. Grace Is Gone. John Cusack plays a dad whose wife dies while fighting in Iraq, and he must find a way to explain it to his two young daughters. Read more about this emotional journey at Sazze. 3:50 PM CT WMax
Caution: Yield Ahead
The previews for next week’s Amazing Race All Stars show a Yield coming up, and we’re told that two teams conspire to use it.
The obvious candidates for a good yielding would be the Beauty Queens, Dustin and Kandice. They pulled the Yield out and used it on Eric and Danielle for no discernible reason, and now revenge is on the menu. Charla and Mirna are also no fans of the Beauty Queens, so it would come as no surprise to see a plan hatched to foil the blondies at this critical juncture in the race.
I can’t see the Beauty Queens plotting with any of the other teams to use the Yield. The only possible team that would work with them at this point are Danny and Oswald, and I just don’t see that happening. But if it did, Charla and Mirna would most likely be the intended targets.
The only other possibility would be Charla and Mirna working with Eric and Danielle to yield Danny and Oswald, but again, it’s unlikely. Sure, the Cha Cha’s are formidable opponents, but if the opportunity presents itself to slow down the blondes, I can’t see either team passing it up.
So then, why the teaser in the previews? Another attempt by the editors to heighten the drama, or are we actually in for a surprise here? What do you think?
