Before they can meet up again, though, the other woman, a B movie actress, is found dead, pushed off the roof.

What’s Hot On TV Tonight – Typical Summer Saturday Night

Posted on Saturday, July 24, 2010 in What's Hot On TV

Hopefully it’s a nice sunny summer day wherever you are. Here, it’s raining so much I’m not sure if my sump pump will keep up. And even worse, there’s not much on TV tonight. It’s a typical Saturday night in the summer. We’re a few weeks out of preseason football, yet a month past the basketball and hockey playoffs. We do have a Nationwide NASCAR race and the Canadian Open. You can always count on Cops and America’s Most Wanted, and now we have Persons Unknown as well. What’s Hot On TV Tonight - Kung Fu Panda

Posted on Saturday, May 23, 2009 in What's Hot On TV

kung-fu-panda.jpg

Although it’s an animated film, there is actually a lot of real martial arts elements in Kung Fu Panda. From the five animals that make up the original disciples to some of the discipline learned. Although, there is no “wushu finger hold”, per se. As a martial arts instructor, I can’t even tell you the number of kids that came in last summer and asked if they could learn the “wushu finger hold.”

1. The Wiz. Modern urban version of The Wizard of Oz, based on a Broadway musical, starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. Ease On Down the Road replaces We’re Off to See the Wizard. 11:00 AM CT Retro

2. The Number 23. If you feel like being a little spooked and weirded out this afternoon, this is the movie for you. Jim Carrey stars as a guy that throughout the movie you can never tell whether he truly is being haunted by this number, or whether he’s just flat out going nuts. 1:00 PM CT 5 Star Max

3. Cocoon. A retirement community finds what amounts to be a fountain-of-youth, but it’s really aliens looking to return home. Stars Dom Ameche, Wilford Brimley, Hume Cronyn, and Brian Dennehy. 1:20 PM CT Retro

4. The Great Debaters. Denzel is terrific as always in this true story of an all-black college debate team trying to break out of the mold and be able to debate some of the larger all-white schools back in the 1930s. 2:40 PM CT Showtime Next East

5. Con Air. This movie has one of my favorite movie lines of all time. Steve Buscemi hears Sweet Home Alabama playing, and watching the other convicts dancing around to it on the airplane, says “Define irony. Bunch of idiots dancing on a plane to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash.” Love it. 7:00 PM CT TNT

6. Kung Fu Panda. A panda is chosen to succeed a martial arts master, and has to depend on the other disciples to learn the trade in a matter of days. Stars Jacks\ Black, Jackie Chan, and Dustin Hoffman. 7:00 PM CT HBO East

7. NBA Playoff: Game 3: Lakers at Nuggets. Game 3 of the Western Conference finals. 7:30 PM CT ABC

8. Harper’s Island. After Wellington’s murder, the entire wedding party is in shock, as Abby and Henry try to figure out what happened. 8:00 PM CT CBS

9. America’s Most Wanted. William Weigt is named an AMW All Star after remaining on the job as a detective, despite being shot and paralyzed by a suspect in 2005. Fugitives included in tonight’s broadcast include a man accused of killing his girlfriend, a man wanted for killing for men at the gym, and a gymnastics coach suspected of child molestation. 8:00 PM CT Fox

10. Primeval. A creature able to camouflage itself takes up residence in a “haunted house.” 8:00 PM CT BBC

11. Groomer Has It. The contestants have to groom potbellied pigs that are hard to control, then have to make overweight dogs appear thinner. 8:00 PM CT Animal Planet

12. 48 Hours Mystery. The murders of a couple shot and killed at home could be linked to a mortgage banker. 9:00 PM CT CBS

13. Beverly Hills Groomer. Artist gets advice from a financial adviser, a new mysterious client could mean good things for the business, and his sister drags him to an exercise class early in the morning to get potential clients. 9:00 PM CT Animal Planet

0000034411_20061020195628.jpg.jpeg

There are a number of sketches Will Ferrell could bring back to the show tonight as he guest hosts the show that made him famous, Saturday Night Live. Even better, Green Day is the musical guest. I don’t know if you can craft a better season ender.

1. Almost Famous. What could be cooler to a teenage guy than to get to follow around a rock band for awhile, then write about it for Rolling Stone? 11:45 AM CT HBO Signature East

2. Preaknes Stakes: From Pimlico Race Course. It’s the second leg of the triple crown. Can long shot Kentucky Derby champion Mine That Bird do it again? 3:30 PM CT NBC

3. The Odd Couple. It’s the original, with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon before Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. A true classic. 4:10 PM CT HBO Comedy East

5. Overboard. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell star in a movie I thought would be just alright, but not only did I really enjoy it, it’s become one of my favorites. 3:05 PM CT Encore West

10. Cops. A man originally pulled over for a traffic violation admits to having marijuana, police chase a suspect who disguises himself with a change of clothes, and a detective deals with a suspect who gets emotional after being pulled over in an area known for drugs. 7:00 PM CT Fox

11. Cops. An officer finds a vehicle that could be connected to an armed robbery, deputies use a Taser on an offender, and police chase a suspect who is hiding his crack. 7:30 PM CT Fox

Posted on Saturday, April 11, 2009 in What's Hot On TV

tt0049833_largeCover.jpg.jpeg

There are only four new episodes of TV on tonight. It’s slim pickens. So I’ve filled the slots with some of my favorite movies, and The Ten Commandments. I’ve never seen The Ten Commandments, for some reason. Perhaps I didn’t want to invest the nearly five hours.

1. Madagascar. A very well-made movie with great celebrity voices, ones you wouldn’t normally expect to hear in animated movies, such as Ben Stiller, hris Rock, and David Schwimmer. 12:45 PM CT TBS

2. Risky Business. The movie that made Tom Cruise a star. Watching it this afternoon if you get a chance, because “sometimes in life, Joel, you just have to say what the … ” 1:30 PM CT TVLand

3. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It’s one of the first movies I can remember seeing in a theater, and it came out when I was 4. Never mind the year. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for this movie and its songs. 3:00 PM CT ABC Family

4. The Ten Commandments. Nothing to do for the next four hours and forty-four minutes? Here ya go. 6:00 PM CT ABC
